How often do you seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in your life? I think most of us want to be led by the Holy Spirit, but sometimes it can be a difficult idea to get ahold of. What exactly does His guidance look like? Do we wait for a “SIGN”? Do we get really quiet and listen for an audible voice?
Sometimes we might say something like, “I’m not going to do ANYTHING until I hear from the Holy Spirit.” Now, as super-spiritual as that might sound, it may not be the best option. (Although it might be better than making major life decisions without consulting the Holy Spirit!)
The book of Acts is full of examples of the disciples being led by the Spirit. When Philip shared the gospel with the Ethiopian eunuch, the first direction he received was “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (Acts 8:26) As he obeyed that direction and got moving, he received his next direction, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.”
Like the game “Hotter… Colder” when we seek God’s guidance, those next steps often come as we move. We don’t have to wait until we have the entire one, five, and fifteen-year plan before we take a step. In fact, if we wait for that, we may not move at all!
So, as you are seeking what God would have you do today, what step are you going to take, and then how are you going to tune into the Holy Spirit’s leading from there?
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17 ESV
